Ukraine Photo Trip

I will be traveling to the Ukraine for a photo assignment on May 1 and will return May 10. The destination will be the town of Sumy in the northeastern part of Ukraine.

Google Plus for Photographers

I will be giving a demonstration of Google Plus for the Collaboration of Photographers in Palmer Lake, Colorado on February 27 from 7:00 pm. to 8:30 p.m. The cost of this demonstration is free, but you must be a member of the Collaboration of Photographers ($15/year).

I will be scheduling more local panorama workshops through the new Colorado Springs Creative Photography Group - GOLD. Please check out this progressive and awesome group of people! This meetup.com group has an annual fee, but the classes and workshops will be much smaller with more one-on-one instruction.

Introduction to Panoramas

I will be teaching an introduction to panoramas workshop for the Colorado Springs Photographers Group on Monday, December 12, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the East Branch of the Pikes Peak Library.

New Galleries Added

The panorama workshop was a big success! I've added several new galleries including Capitol Reef National Park, Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument, and Goblin Valley State Park. The clouds during my group's workshop were fantastic as well as the sunsets. We ran into a little bit of rain on one of the days, but all-in-all, we took a lot of great shots. I'm going to be offering more panorama workshops in the near future, so stay tuned!

Capitol Reef Panorama Workshop

Ouray and Yankee Boy Basin

June 13, 2011 marked the 10th anniversary of my family's move from northern California to Colorado. It's been a wonderful last 10 years, and the beauty of Colorado is a daily inspiration and drive for my photography. However, in those last 10 years, I had never been to Yankee Boy Basin, even though several photographer friends had been, and I had seen hundreds of photos from this special place. Well, that's about to change. My daughter Rebecca and I will be joining a couple of friends of mine and we'll be heading to Ouray on July 26 for our first trip into Yankee Boy Basin on July 27. If all goes well, I will be adding a LOT of photos to the Colorado Wildflowers gallery on this site.

Mt. Evans and life with an alititude

I had the pleasure of traveling to the summit of Mt. Evans (14,264 feet above sea level) on July 2 and July 12. If you haven't ever spent time in the alpine zones in Colorado (11,500 feet and higher), then you are missing out. There's a special calling for me once I get above where trees don't survive (which is where the annual average daily temperature is below 50 degrees F, or approximately 11,500 feet and higher in Colorado). Plus, it's so easy to get to the summit by car. The road leading up to the parking lot, just below the actual summit of Mt. Evans, is the highest paved road in North America! And it's only 2 hours from my home in Colorado Springs, which makes it a fantastic day trip (on July 2, my family and I were back home by 2:30 p.m.). If you'd like to learn more about Mt. Mt. Evans area

Just went to the summit of Mt. Evans on Saturday, July 2. It was a beautiful day up there, and I was sure glad to get out of the heat of Colorado Springs (95 degrees). Temperature at the summit of Mt. Evans (14,240 feet above sea level) was 48 degrees, and I was enjoying every minute of it.

I knew it was a holiday weekend and that it would be crowded, so I left at 5:30 a.m., and was up there reasonably early before the swarm of people hit. I had never been there, so it was a real treat to shoot photos around Summit Lake, which is a glacial tarn lake below the cirque of the north face. Wildflowers were everywhere, but since this area is way above treeline, they were of the tundra variety. Shot a lot of closeup photos of Mountain Goats. It's amazing how close you can get to them! Anyway, there are several new photos that are now on this site in the Colorado Mountains gallery, the Colorado Wildlife gallery, and the Colorado Panoramas gallery. Enjoy!
